What You Need to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it scratch-resistant?

Pet-friendly fabric has a tighter weave. When pets scratch or walk across the sofa, their claws are less likely to get caught on the surface, reducing the chance of threads being snagged.

In addition, these fabrics have a soft, velvety surface with a short, smooth pile. This provides fewer pronounced loops or raised fibres for claws to catch on and is less appealing for pets to scratch than rougher, more textured fabrics.

However, repeated scratching in the same area can still cause visible damage over time.

Is it water-resistant?

Most of our pet-friendly fabric series are also water-resistant, but this varies by fabric. Water-resistant fabrics help slow the absorption of spills, pet drool and other liquids, giving you more time to blot them away.

However, they are not fully waterproof, so liquids can still seep through if left unattended. Pet urine and other accidents should therefore be cleaned as soon as possible to reduce the chance of liquid reaching the cushion and leaving lingering odours.

Who is it not suitable for?

Pet-friendly fabric may not be suitable for those looking for a cooler, more breathable upholstery option. Its tight weave reduces airflow and retains more heat during prolonged sitting.

Its soft, short-pile surface can collect more dust over time, which may make it less suitable for people who are sensitive to dust. We recommend regular vacuuming with a soft brush attachment to reduce dust accumulation.

It may also be less suitable if you prefer a natural or textured fabric feel.

Pet-Friendly Sofa Guide

Choosing a Pet-Friendly Sofa

Beyond pet friendly fabrics, learn what else to consider when choosing a sofa for cats and dogs, including removable covers, loose cushions, sofa height and design.

For Homes with Cats

If your cat likes hiding under the sofa, consider a low-leg design (below 5 cm) to keep them out and protect the fabric underneath from scratching.

For Homes with Dogs

A lower seat can make it easier for smaller or older dogs to get on and off the sofa. If the seat is still too high for your dog, pet steps or a ramp can help.
