Mattress Care Guide

Learn how to properly care for your Cozylant mattress from the day it arrives.

This guide covers mattress setup, cleaning and ongoing maintenance, including how to protect your mattress, when to rotate it, and simple care practices that can help keep it comfortable, supportive and in good condition for longer.

Setting Up Your Mattress

A suitable bed frame and a little care during setup can help protect your mattress and allow it to perform as intended for longer.

Set It Up Properly From the Start

Handle your mattress carefully and make sure your bed frame provides sufficient support before placing the mattress on it.

1
Do Not Bend the Mattress Avoid folding or sharply bending your mattress when moving it into position, as this can place unnecessary stress on its internal layers.
2
Check Your Bed Slats For slatted bed frames, ensure that the gaps between slats are below 5cm and narrower than the slats themselves to provide even support.
3
Air It After Opening Leave your new mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room whenever possible during the first few days. A slight new-mattress smell is normal and should gradually dissipate.
4
Allow Roll-Packed Mattresses to Expand After unpacking, allow at least 6 - 12 hours for the mattress to recover its shape before sleeping on it for the best initial experience.
Good to Know Minor variations in mattress height or shape for roll packed mattressses after unpacking are normal. The mattress can take between 24 - 72 hours to fully regain its intended shape.

Maintaining Your Mattress

Regular cleaning and simple maintenance can help keep your mattress fresher, more hygienic and more supportive for longer.
Cleaning

Keep Your Mattress Clean

Your bedding forms the first layer between you and your mattress. Keeping it clean reduces the amount of sweat, body oils, dust and other debris from reaching the mattress.

1
Wash Bedding Every 1 - 2 Weeks Wash your bedsheets, pillowcases and other bedding that comes into direct contact with your body regularly. Wash them more frequently if you tend to sweat more, sleep with pets or have sensitive skin.
2
Air the Mattress When Changing Sheets Leave the mattress uncovered for a short while between bedding changes to allow any accumulated moisture to dissipate before putting on fresh sheets.
3
Use a Mattress Protector Add a breathable, water-resistant mattress protector between your bedding and mattress to provide an extra barrier against sweat, body moisture, accidental spills, dust and debris.

Help Your Mattress Wear More Evenly

All our hybrid mattresses have a top comfort layer and a pocketed spring support layer, so they are designed to be used on one side.

1
No Need to Flip Unlike traditional two-sided mattresses, our hybrid mattresses should not be flipped as the underside is not designed to provide the same sleeping comfort.
2
Rotate 180° From Head to Foot Periodically rotating your mattress can help distribute wear and body impressions more evenly across the sleeping surface.
Rotation can be particularly useful if one side of the mattress receives more pressure than another, such as when one person regularly sleeps on the same side.

When to Replace Your Mattress

Even with proper care, mattress materials gradually wear over time. How your mattress feels and supports you is usually more important than its age alone to determine when to change your mattress.

Is It Time for a New Mattress?

A well-made hybrid mattress will commonly provide comfortable use for around 5 - 10 years, although its actual lifespan depends on how it is used and cared for.

Signs It May Be Time to Replace
Persistent sagging or deep body impressions
Areas that feel noticeably softer or less supportive
Lumps, unevenness or springs that can be felt through the surface
Reduced pressure relief compared with when the mattress was newer
Regularly waking with discomfort that appears related to your mattress
You consistently sleep more comfortably on other mattresses
Listen to Your Body If rotating your mattress or adjusting your sleep setup no longer restores the comfort and support you need, it may be time to consider a replacement.
