How We Helped a Mum Customise a Safe, Stylish Sofa
Share
Becoming a mother for the first time can make one highly conscious of what enters the home, especially furniture. One of our recent customers, a new mum, reached out to us with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of the materials used in her new sofa. Her primary concern was the presence of non-toxic components in the fabric and cushioning, with particular focus on Oeko-Tex certification. She also mentioned that they may have pets in the future, so choosing a fabric that was both safe for her child and resistant to scratches was equally important.
We recommended our Furla fabric series — a pet-friendly fabric with a tight-knit construction designed to resist scratching and snagging. Its durability, paired with a refined texture, made it an excellent candidate for a young family planning to have pets.
To address her safety concerns in full, we contacted our supplier directly to confirm the fabric’s Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification. Furla is manufactured by Zhida, a company that holds this certification at the company level for its fabric manufacturing process, and we shared the relevant documentation with her for complete peace of mind.

With fabric selection settled, we proceeded to discuss about the customizations required for her sofa. She likes the Castle Fabric Sofa but she wanted to have removable seat cushion covers for easier washing — a must-have feature in case of accidental spills and everyday mess from a child. As the Castle model is designed with tufted seat cushions, we advised that while removal is technically possible, it is extremely time-consuming and impractical for regular upkeep. To solve this, we recommended switching to non-tufted seat cushions, which allow for easy removal and machine washing.
As for sofa width, 210cm would fit her place perfectly. We proposed modifying the frame into a split-frame design. This ensures the sofa can be delivered easily through lifts and tight corridors, which is often a concern in high-rise buildings. The split-frame solution preserves the aesthetic of the design while adding a layer of logistical convenience during delivery.
To complement the split frame visually, we also suggested modifying the original bench-style seat to a split-cushion format, with the width of each cushion aligned to the sections of the frame. We think that this adjustment will improve the balance and visual symmetry of the sofa and shared to her a previous sample of how the Castle Fabric Sofa looks with non-tufted split seat cushions for her consideration.
In terms of comfort, she expressed a preference for a slightly higher seat height than the standard 45cm, which would make sitting down and standing up easier — especially when carrying her child. We achieved this by customising the sofa with 18cm carbon steel legs, giving her the additional height she needed without compromising on stability or style.
When it came to colour selection, she had a clear vision. She selected Furla 54, a vibrant burnt orange, for the main body of the sofa, and paired it with cushions in Reda 70, a pale blue tone that added a fresh contrast. To complete the look, we customised the legs in matte black, creating a bold and modern finish that tied the entire design together beautifully.
Once production was complete, we shared detailed photos of the finished sofa on the factory floor so she could preview it before shipping.
The sofa was then sent to Singapore and safely stored until she notified us that she was ready to receive it. Within a week of her confirmation, the sofa was successfully delivered to her doorstep.
This project was a lovely example of how thoughtful customisation — focused on safety, practicality and style — can help create a home that grows with your family. From certified materials to tailored proportions and vibrant colours, every detail was carefully crafted to suit her lifestyle as a new mum, with a view toward the future.
