How We Helped a Customer Customise the Calm Leather Sofa for Her Home

When a customer contacted us about customising a sofa for her home, she had already set her sights on our Calm Half Leather Sofa model. However, she wanted to personalise the design in a way that would blend beautifully with her interior while offering everyday comfort.

She wanted to have the Calm Half Leather Sofa in white, which complemented the clean and airy aesthetic of her living room. To help her visualise the final outcome, we showed her a previously Calm Leather Sofa in white that we had completed for another customer using Remy 571. This particular leather offered a calming white tone with a pebbled grain surface. After seeing this example, she felt confident that Remy 571 was the right choice for her home.

In addition, while browsing through our past project photos, she felt the gaps between the backrest cushions appeared too wide. We explained that this spacing is part of the factory’s new aesthetic approach where the backrest cushions do not cover up the whole frame. These gaps also reduce the friction between the backrest cushions, minimizing wear on the leather and preventing rubbing noises over time. However, after checking in with the factory, we assured her that it is possible to reduce the gaps slightly whilst still maintaining the practical benefit of reduced friction and noise. Reduced gaps between backrest cushions has since become a common feature for most of our Calm sofas delivered in Singapore.

We then discussed the overall size of the sofa. For a family of four, we recommended a width of at least 260cm to ensure generous seating space. To support this size, we suggested constructing the sofa in two split frames. This approach is especially helpful during delivery, as it makes it easier to navigate through lifts, corridors and staircases. From a structural perspective, the maximum length for a single timber piece is typically either 210cm or 230cm. When the sofa exceeds this width, the internal frame must be built using joined timber sections rather than a single solid length. Since joined timbers tend to be less robust, splitting the frame once the width goes beyond 210 centimetres not only simplifies handling during delivery but also improves the overall durability and strength of the sofa.

For the backrest layout, we advised increasing the number of cushions from two to three. This not only offered better support but also enhanced the proportions of the Calm model, resulting in a more balanced and elegant appearance. She agreed this change would elevate the overall look and suit the space more effectively.

Production was completed within two and a half weeks. Throughout the process, we kept her updated with photos of the sofa on the factory floor. Once she reviewed the final result and gave her approval, we arranged shipping to her home.

The delivery went smoothly, and the sofa was placed exactly where she had envisioned — in the centre of her living room.
